It is estimated that from 2008 through 2018 that the need for pharmacists will increase dramatically. This is because of the aging population and the increased complexity of the medicines that we take now.
It is estimated that the number of pharmacy job openings will increase by 17% over this time span. If you want to have a career that is in demand and will be for years to come, a job as a pharmacist is a good one. It can take up to six years beyond high school to become a pharmacist. It takes four years in pharmacy school. Most schools require at least two years of science courses before you even take the pharmacy school entrance exam.
Once you get through the program though, you can expect to have a steady job that will pay between $90,000 and $120,000 per year. Pharmacists' salaries can go up as high as $135,000. Depending on the number of people going into this line of work that could go higher.
