Long-term Care/Skilled Nursing Facility

Long-term care pharmacists work with physicians to provide drug treatment to patients in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospice programs.

Duties may include:

  • Dispense pharmaceuticals, sterile intravenous drugs and nutritional products
  • Dispense prescriptions in unit-dose, individually packaged for accurate and safe administration by nursing staff
  • Deliver prescription orders to facilities, whenever emergencies arise
  • Help physicians and nurses improve therapeutic outcomes and reduce medication-related problems
  • Provide a standard of service that is based on patients' needs
