Infusion pharmacists provide services to patients who have conditions so severe they cannot be treated with oral medication.

Duties may include:

  • Prescribe drug therapies administered via infusion, including antibiotics, antifungal, antiviral, chemotherapy, hydration, pain management and parenteral nutrition
  • Prescribe drugs that will be administered via intramuscular injections and epidural routes
  • Treat patients who have chronic and sometimes rare diseases
