Hospital pharmacists work with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure that the best treatment option is selected for the patient.

Duties may include:

  • Create drug treatment with physicians
  • Educate patients on effects, dosage and administration of medications
  • Go on rounds and take an active role in the treatment process
  • Monitor side effects and any interactions of prescribed drugs
  • Ensure that medications are given under sterile conditions and that storage properly executed
  • Supervise staff and coordinate hospital-related queries regarding drugs
  • Create guidelines for use of drugs within the hospital
  • Maintain budgets for medication and related expenditures
